In 1968, Time Magazine conducted a study to find out the exact origins of the hippie movement. This study revealed that even in ancient Greece there was such a movement, which included philosophers such as Diogenes of Sinope. The first forms of Hippie culture appeared in Europe. Between 1896 and 1908 in Germany there was a countercultural movement against popular music at that time. Known as the Der Wandervogel (migratory bird), the movement opposed traditionalism in music.
